Featured Artist Friday - Esther Niesen!

For the first edition of Featured Artist Friday we bring to you....Esther Niesen!!!

Esther has been an artist at Thin Ice since 2010, brightening the store with her whimsical and extremely well made felt animals.

Coming from an artistic family, especially her mom, the apple didn't fall far from the tree and Esther started creating art at a very early age.  Esther came onto the scene in Buffalo with the original idea of making art from old photographic negatives meticulously cut into the shapes of enlarged animals.
Esther's very deserved claim to fame is her attention to detail and the extreme thought and creativity she puts into each piece.  Truly an artist, Esther is constantly evolving and changing her medium while remaining true to the miniature scale in which she excels.

Capturing the minds and hearts of adults and children, Esther's medium of choice lately is felt.  Adorning ties with creative creatures and critters Esther has created a line of ties for children and also for adventurous and fun loving adults, many of whom are amassing quite a collection of her one of a kind neckwear.

But not everyone wears ties and everyone really needs to own a piece of Esther's art. The solution...pins! Pins are the quintessential accessory - jazz up a scarf, individualize a bag, adorn a coat (guy or girl), pins are just great for showing a little of your personality mixed with a little of Esther's.

For the serious Esther fans, of which there are many, Esther developed full, plush animals. Everything is hand sewn and painstakingly detailed. These are works of art meant to be loved but also so expertly made you will want to pass them down to family and friends.

Now the question you've all been asking in your heads - where, oh where, can you buy this amazing art?

Year round you can find Esther's creatures at Thin Ice or at 464 Gallery . Sometimes, like this Saturday, August 1, 2015, Esther is set up outside of Thin Ice.  Like this:

You can also find her at a myriad of shows and festivals such as Pausa Art House, Echo Art Fair, Hallwall's, the WNYBAC Small Press Book Fair, and MayDay Underground Crafts + Art, just to name a few.  If online shopping is more your thing (we're not judging) then look her up at

Hopefully you can stop by Thin Ice this weekend but if not, look her up and find some way, some how, to meet her and see her talent firsthand.  She is a delight and her artwork is a reflection of her kind soul.
