Cat Regime Change at Thin Ice

Oh hello, blog. You've been missed. Since the last blog entry focused on Miss Atti and Simon the Terrible, resident Shop Cats at Thin Ice, this blog post will keep with the cat theme but talk about the regime change here at Thin Ice. Those who have been in, no doubt noticed the absence of Simon and the appearance of a new cat. Allow me to explain. The new Shop Cat is Lyra though she will also answer to Marshmallow. She is Simon's mom. That's the short story but now for the back story… Hello Lyra! Please, no drinking on the job Hopefully all of you know the majority of the work at my store is handmade by local artists. As in 90% and I still get new local artists weekly (I've been open 11 years). One of the greatest surprises of opening my store is the relationships I have formed with my artists. I had retail experience prior to opening my own business but I didn't work with any of the vendors so I only knew of, and looked forward to, the relationships

Open House with artist Meg Ford Latona!

Jean vs Merlin's

Earlier today Jean, Elmwood All-Star Extraordinaire, was minding her own business, walking down the street, yelling about something or other, as she harmlessly does. Al, the tall, lanky Merlin's regular who conveniently lives above the bar seemingly to optimize on the amount of hours he can spend drinking, happened to be outside Merlins, drinking. Al went after Jean, blowing a paper horn directly in her face, followed her into the street, through the intersection, in the middle of traffic, and eventually moved directly in front of cars, forcing them to stop. This, of course, upset Jean, who began to yell louder and become visibly upset. I opened my door to let Jean in and as I was exchanging words with Al, who was claiming to be "giving her a taste of her own medicine" my awesome neighbor Brian, of Brian Art Galleries, came over and began exchanging heated words with Al as well. In the end Brian called the police on Al and Jean stayed in my store until she felt comfortabl
